Yarm 1914

Killed in action 12 Sep 1916. Born at Holborn, Middx and enlisted at Stockton from Yarm. Thiepval Memorial, France

Yarm1914 believe that Charles Edwin Taylor did not have any family living when he died. In his war records described as his next of kin and Mary A Wood. Mary Ann Wood was living with her husband Joseph Wood and granddaughter Irene Maud Whitehead in Bridge Street in Yarm. Joseph was a labourer and the family may have taken Charles in as a lodger. Charles may have known Mary Ann when she lived in London. Originally from Hutton Rudby, Mary Ann Honeyman aged 23 married William Whitehead in Deptford. They had 4 children before moving to High Street, Yarm where they had 2 more children. By 1901 William had moved back to his home town Rochdale where he was living on his own and Mary Ann and the family moved to Jacksons Yard. Soon afterwards one of her sons Edwin died. In 1907 she met and married Joseph Wood, Son William joined the Royal Artilery. One daughter married the following year and the other went to Sheffield in 1911.
